Pool Conditioning

Whatever the size of pool, it costs time, labour and chemicals to ensure it is well maintained.

ENiGMA is an environmentally friendly innovation which helps keep swimming pools clean and reduces maintenance costs.  It was winner of the 1994 Ideal Home Exhibition’s Award of Excellence in the Environment Category for keeping Swimming Pools clean without the use of excessive, corrosive chemicals.

  • Reduce swimming pool maintenance by up to 50%
  • Reduce the use of chlorine by around 35%
  • Remove scum deposits from the pool edge
  • Return stainless steel fittings to their former pristine condition
  • Remove limescale from within the swimming pool plant
  • Obviate the need for chemical stabilizers to correct the pH balance
  • Pay for itself in under 2 years

Swimming Pool Water Application

Winner of the 1994 Ideal Home Exhibition's Award of Excellence in the Environment Category, the OLYMPIC is the simple, environmental way to keep swimming pools clean without the use of excessive corrosive chemicals. Despite a significant reduction in the use of chlorine, independent analyses of water samples taken from swimming pools treated by the OLYMPIC have shown there to be a 0% bacteria count. The OLYMPIC is also suitable for spas and hydrotherapy pools.

How it works

Using modern, integrated circuitry the OLYMPIC emits an electronic signal which induces low ionizing voltages into the water. This changes the physical properties of calcium thereby preventing scaling - which in turn promotes a bacteria free environment. It is simply installed by coiling the signal cable around the recirculating pipe downstream of the pump and filter and then plugging it into a power source. The OLYMPIC can be attached to all types of pipework material, regardless of size.

Chlorine is necessary in swimming pools to deal with the bacteria that build up within the water and treatment plant. Bacteria are introduced via various sources, including the swimmers themselves, and will proliferate in the warm conditions found in the pool. Water evaporation causes the total dissolved solids (TDS) levels to increase to levels far and above those of the incoming water and much of the calcium content ends up coating the surfaces of the pool and associated plant. Body yeast, which is essentially dead skin shed by pool users, adheres to the calcium on the sides of the pool, causing a very stubborn tide mark. This scale becomes both a source of nourishment and accommodation for bacteria which, left untreated, poses potential health problems to users of the pool.

Appropriate levels of biocide, e.g. chlorine, are continuously maintained so that the risks are removed; the acidity of the pool has to be maintained at a neutral level to ensure this is effective. Maintaining a neutral pH is complicated by the precipitation of the calcium and the changes to pH caused by the biocide. Constant monitoring of free chlorine levels and pH and subsequent adjustments to the chemistry should ensure that the pool remains safe and comfortable, i.e. no pathogens nor stinging of the eyes.

From the number of very successful applications of Electronic Water Descaling equipment in swimming pools we have been able to demonstrate the effectiveness of the equipment to control calcium. Within days of applying equipment, the following results were noted:

  • Total dissolved solids (TDS) levels increase dramatically.
  • Free chlorine levels increase dramatically.
  • Body Yeast levels rise dramatically.
  • pH becomes much easier to maintain at a neutral level.
  • Pathogen activity maintained at zero.

The reason for these very significant changes is simply that the calcium scale deposits within the pool environment are dissolved back into the water. The results of this lead to a reduction in chemical usage of over 30% and a pool that is literally easier on the eye. The tiles and stainless fittings look like new, the water sparkles regardless of pool loading and eye irritation is much reduced. Although these latter points are not obvious payback considerations, they can only contribute to increased customer satisfaction and hence more bums on seats.

Other significant savings in chemicals and water are possible, providing the person responsible is prepared to ignore some of the advice of chemical suppliers, who might be self interested. TDS levels can be maintained at a higher level than normal if calcium is no longer precipitating out as scale. In addition the periods between back-washing can be extended. Both these considerations result in water and chemicals not being poured down the drain!
